Exxon Mobil Chemical Co. and Sabic issued a joint announcement on June 13 that the two companies will promote a joint venture project in San Patricio County, Texas, to build a chemical plant and a steam cracking facility with an annual capacity of 1.8 million tons.

The announcement comes after Gulf Coast Growth Ventures, a joint venture between the two companies, received the final environmental regulatory approval earlier this month.

The production base will have "one of the largest steam cracking facilities in the world", two sets of polyethylene facilities and one set of mono glycol facility.

Construction work will begin in the third quarter of 2019 and is expected to start production in 2022.
