Recently, Sumitomo Chemical announced that it plans to start localized production of thermoplastic polyolefins (TPO) in China and Europe this year, thus forming its global TPO production network in Japan, China, Europe and the United States. At present, Sumitomo Chemical can produce 10,000 tons of TPO resin per year in its factories in Japan and 12,000 tons per year in several factories in the United States.

Sumitomo Chemical is expanding its global TPO production network to better meet the growing market demand for its special products, especially in automotive applications such as airbag caps, car body seals and interior surface materials. Due to growing demands for TPO in China and Europe, the company plans to localize production in both places.

In China, Sumitomo Chemical plans to install a new TPO production line with a capacity of 5,000 tons per year at its Dalian PP compound base, which is scheduled to start production in May. In Europe, Sumitomo Chemical will transform its existing facilities at a PP compound base in the United Kingdom to form thousands of tons of annual production capacity, which is expected to start operation by the end of 2019.
